Arent Schuyler De Peyster, British army officer, was born in 1736 the son of a prominent New York family. Following duty in the Seven Years' War, D ePeyster was appointed in 1774 commandant of Fort Michilimackinac, the only British-garrisoned outpost on the Great Lakes above Detroit during the American Revolution.
